Vogue and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) have partnered with Amazon Fashion to support independent fashion designers during the COVID-19 pandemic as part of the "A Common Thread" program . According to the CFDA, it's a storytelling initiative, to raise both awareness and needed funds for those in the American fashion community who have been impacted by the pandemic. Small and medium sized businesses can apply to the program for grants.
This partnership offers a major relief to designers by giving them access to Amazon's customers via a digital storefront and utilizing the company's delivery network. Amazon is bringing high end fashion to its customers via this partnership and it includes designers such as 3.1 Phillip Lim, Derek Lam 10 Crosby, Chloe Gosselin and Tanya Taylor.
A trip to your local mall should reveal how difficult this pandemic has been for retailers. The number of people going to the mall has fallen dramatically and the recent lockdowns have meant huge losses for many fashion brands as there was little or no demand. This initiative is a brilliant way of providing a retail outlet to struggling designers.
